Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica are moving away from Riverdale: the quartet and their friends are moving to Bollywood.
Archie Comics and Graphic India are teaming up to create a Bollywood film, featuring real actors, in which the eternal teenagers of the American suburbs will be Indian characters.
The two partner companies touted their project as the first international comic to be translated for the Indian market. No release date has been announced.
Sharad Devarajan, president and co-founder of Graphic India, says Archie’s adventures have long been adopted by the Indian public and “it’s time to plunge them into Bollywood with a new exciting plot”.
Archie’s freckled face appeared as a comic book for the first time in 1941 and soon became an emblem of American social rectitude. Sold over 2 billion copies, the comic has been distributed in 55 countries and translated into more than 17 languages
The characters are currently featured in the Riverdale series on the CW television network.
